Reverend Paul H. Anderson was a Presbyterian minister and candidate for Mayor during the 2014 Mayoral recall election.

Early Life and Education

Paul Anderson was born in 1960 to Dr. and Mrs. Albert Anderson in Maine and grew up in the the Greenville-Taylors area of South Carolina. He attended Eastside High School and received his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1983. He also was a member of the Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, where he served as an administrator and faculty member.

Involvement in Politics

During his time as a minister in Providence, RI; Anderson was active in Republican Party politics and considered running as a Republican for Governor of Rhode Island. During the 2014 Mayoral recall, he ran as an Independent and received 115 votes (0.70%), putting him in a distant 6th place. He did manage to defeat perennial candidates Louis Alves Melim(I) and Ronald A. Cabral(D), who had run for various offices in previous election cycles.


Paul Anderson died on June 26, 2015 at the age of 55 after suffering a massive stroke caused by a blood clot in his brain.
